Tim Scheerhorn, designer and inventor of a square-neck
resonator guitar, makes instruments for country music stars
in Dickson, Tenn.
Several top musicians regard Tim Scheerhorn as the Thomas
Edison or Leonardo da Vinci of the guitar world.
That’s because the Dickson County, Tenn., resident
designed and invented a square-neck resonator guitar in
1989 that is now used by hundreds of high-profile musicians.
In fact, Scheerhorn’s guitars have become so popular
that there is a lengthy waiting list for one of his handcrafted
creations.
"It’s true – there is currently a 44-month
back order on guitars that I make," Scheerhorn says.
"I construct about 40 guitars a year, so I’ll
be staying busy for a long time. I’ve got job security
for quite a while, that’s for sure."
His guitars are currently strummed and picked by such accomplished
musicians as Jimmy Stewart (Brooks & Dunn), Emily Robison
(Dixie Chicks), Jerry Douglas (Alison Krauss & Union
Station), Phil Ledbetter (J.D. Crowe & The New South),
as well as soloists such as Mike Auldridge, Rob Ickes and
Sally VanMeter.
